What is Icy? If you have been doing jailbreak since the first iPhone was released, then you probably knew what Icy is. But for someone who’s new in jailbreak methods (just like me), you probably don’t know about it.
As I read on some articles published in the web way back 2 years ago, Icy was considered as the alternate to Cydia as an iPhone app installer which is developed by RipDev. For someone who experienced using Icy, they can say that it is faster and easier to use compared to Cydia. This is because Icy only downloads headers when refreshing repositories, so it will not download again the indeces that were not changed. This saves on your traffic and makes the refreshes faster. The existing repositories of Cydia can be picked up by Icy and the same method from Cydia, you can add more through its Add Source interface.
Icy will always remain free. In fact, they will now be launching again the new Icy probably next week for us to download. But if you cannot wait, as I did, you can download the Beta version by opening Cydia>Manage>Sources>Edit>Add and type “http://repo.ispazio.net”. Search for Icy and Install.
Enjoy an alternative to Cydia with more fast and smoother app installer and downloader using Icy.

Everyone out there with an iPhone probably would ask (just like me before) “why I should jailbreak my iPhone?” Not until I had jailbroken my iPhone that I can really understand the benefits it has brought. As the word jailbreak simply defines, having the freedom when you are out of jail.
At Mobile Connections Conference in Bellagio, Las Vegas last April 17-21, 2011, Robert Scoble got an exclusive interview with Cydia founder/developer Jay Freeman (saurik), the man behind the jailbreaking community as Cydia still grows to be the largest hub for jailbreaking world. Also present was Brenda, Cydia’s “Community and User Experience” Manager to give us the some reason why you should jailbreak your iPhone since they are the most qualified people to answer such questions.
Saurik and Brenda gave a brief explanation the things you can make if you jailbreak your iPhone. They also show some apps/tweaks that they are currently using with their iPhones, including WinterBoard to customize your iPhone nicely. RedSn0w was also mentioned as a tool for the latest jailbreaking process 4.3.2.
Aside from third-party apps you can install to a jailbroken iPhone, you can also download cracked apps from AppStore for free if it’s available in Installous. Just like my favorite game “Real Racing 2” which is supposedy $6.99 in AppStore but I got it for free in Installous.
Having an iPhone is great experience. But for someone who develops jailbreaking process easy, “the freedom to do things that are outside of the scope of an application” is the main reason why you need to jailbreak your iPhone.

What to do after Jailbreak?
Jailbreaking your iPhone is not enough. You need to install an application to be able to download free apps in the web for your iPhone. After you had jailbroke your iPhone using the steps I discussed in the previous post, you must now have CYDIA installed in your iPhone. In this topic, I am going to discuss on how to install INSTALLOUS (the application you need to download cracked apps) from Cydia in the easiest possible manner. To proceed in these steps, you need to have a jailbroken iPhone and an internet connection.
- Launch Cydia from your iPhone and click “Manage” and then “Sources”.

2. Click “edit” and “add”.
3. Type in the box “http://cydia.hackulo.us” and click on “add source”.

4. Going back to Cydia, click on Manage>Sources and click on “Hackulo.us” on the list.
5. Install the latest version of Installous available on the list. For me, it was 4.4.1. Click on “install” and “confirm” to proceed.
6. Wait as it install installous on your iPhone.
7. When this will be successful, you will now have a new icon for installous. Press home button and tap to open installous.
Use installous to search for the applications you need to fully enjoy your iPhone. You can browse to all applications available on the web or by the categories of which the apps are being sorted.
Having a jailbroken iPhone and an application for downloading cracked apps, you must know the apps you really need to refrain from installing unnecessary things in your iPhone. Always remember that Apple will be constantly upgrading their firmware so be ready to always be updated by the latest news and events in jailbreaking your iPhone. Enjoy!

How to Jailbreak your iPhone 4.3.2
Having an iPhone is a great experience, especially if it is jailbroken. This is because you will have the opportunity to explore the limits the Apple gave as soon as you bought your new iPhone. As I promised in the previous post, I would like to discuss the procedure on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4.3.2 by using RedSnow. The procedure will work for both Mac and Windows but in this tutorial, we’ll use Windows.
First of all, make sure your iPhone is with firmware 4.3.2. If it’s not, update your iTunes to the latest version and also update your iPhone firmware. Make a backup and restore your iPhone in case something undesirable will happen. Assuming that your iPhone is 4.3.2, the following steps are to be followed:
- Download the latest version of RedSnow (I used 0.9.6rc14) and save it in a folder in your desktop. Extract the RedSnow zip file in that folder to open the files. Also download the firmware for your iPhone which is 4.3.2 and save it also in the folder you’ve created.
- Double click RedSnow to launch the application to start the jailbreak process. Browse for the firmware you have saved and click to continue.
3. In just a few seconds, RedSnow is going to prepare your iPhone for the jailbreak process.
4. Just select Install Cydia in the options as soon as RedSnow will ask to obtain the minimum requirements.
5. Turn off your iPhone by holding the power button for 3 seconds and slide to power off.
6. Prepare to make your iPhone in DFU mode by following the steps provided in the screen. Click if you are ready for DFU steps.
7. Once your iPhone is successful in DFU mode, RedSnow will now inject jailbreak in your device. Wait for the process to finish.
8. Your iPhone will reboot as soon as the process is finished.
If your procedure succeeds, then you’ll have a jailbroken iPhone with Cydia installed.
What to do next? Watch out for my next posts.
