Last week I wrote an article about Gevey SIM that will probably unlock iPhones running on iOS 5 to be launched later this year. Sad to say, it’s still to be a tethered unlock. But now, the manufacturer of Gevey SIM has updated their latest innovation that will be more interesting than the previous products.

This process will now permanently unlock your iPhone 4 running on all FirmWares iOS 4 and basebands. All you need is the Gevey Ultra SIM and a jailbroken iPhone 4. Take note: Gevey Ultra SIM will work only if you jailbreak your iPhone first. In the previous Gevey SIM, the process is quite long. Now, the process of dialing 112 was eliminated.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Remove the SIM card from your iPhone (I assume you know how to do it). Cut your SIM card in order to fit for the Gevey SIM that is included in the package. Be very careful not to cut the circuit (metal part).
  2. This process really need you iPhone to be jailbroken: Launch Cydia and add to your Sources: http://cydia.furiousmod.com. Search for “FuriousMod” after adding the source and install it. An error message will pop up “No SIM card installed.” Neglect the message and turn off your iPhone.
  3. With your SIM card on top of the Gevey Ultra SIM, place it on the SIM tray and insert back to your iPhone.
  4. Turn ON your iPhone and wait for the signal to appear. Don’t do anything until your iPhone picks up a signal ignoring all the errors that may come up.
  5. Turn ON Data Roaming in order to get a 3G network.

Enjoy your newly unlocked iPhone, which is better than software unlocked, in just a few minutes.

Have you ever experienced when your iPhone cannot connect or search for the WiFi network near you? I often tried this situation when visiting a coffee shop in the mall. This is because the iOS that Apple has provided to all iDevices really neglect the WiFi networks with less quality for users to view. Although it helps iDevices’ users to prevent from experiencing poor web browsing, this also paralyzed your device when searching for a web connection.

WiFi Booster, as it was called, will now prevent the prevention of showing all the networks available in your range. Its main purpose is to lessen the signal threshold at which WiFi hotspots are shown in Settings. To install WiFi Booster, you need to jailbreak first your iPhone. When you have a jailbroken iPhone already, launch Cydia and search for WiFi Booster which is available from BigBoss repo. The current price for this app is $1.99 but its worth is far cheaper after it will give you a better network range. Another great feature that WiFi Booster has offered is it doesn’t add any extra icons for your settings. Its settings are directly installed to your iPhone’s WiFi tab. After installing it from Cydia, you can open your WiFi tab settings and you can see the difference. Aside from displaying all the available networks, you can also see the MAC address of each router.

Thanks to the developer of WiFi Booster, I can now have a better range of networks for my iPhone!

TheftAlarm

Although Apple has included the service “Find My iPhone” for every iPhone users to use, preventing your iPhone from being stolen is still better. TheftAlarm is a jailbreak tweak that will help every jailbroken iPhone from being stolen while charging. This is best suitable if you are a person on the go or sometimes you drain out your iPhone battery while in a coffee shop or class.

Unfolder

Creating a folder for iPhone is very easy. Just hold on to an app and wait for it to wiggle, drag to another app and that’s it! But how about deleting a folder? You can’t. Since you still need to remove first the apps contained on that folder in order for that folder to be gone. That’s why Filippo Bigarella, the developer of TheftAlarm, has also come up with this jailbreak tweak “Unfolder.” This tweak is again, simple yet useful! When you have Unfolder installed in your iPhone, you can delete an entire folder in just one tap so that your contained apps will be back at your springboard.

Note: The following tweaks, FlashLock and QuickGoogle, will only work if you jailbreak your iPhone.

FlashLock

There are a lot of flashlight apps available in AppStore or in Cydia but this particular new jailbreak tweak catches up my attention because of its simplicity and convenience to use. Developed by Filippo Bigarella, FashLock is a shortcut to your iPhone 4 cameras to be used as a flashlight by just tapping an icon in the lockscreen after it has been installed.

To install FlashLock, launch Cydia and navigate to Sources and add Filippo’s repo: http://filippobiga.me/repo. After adding the repo, search for “FlashLock” and install then the springboard will restart. Double tap your Home button to add FlashLock icon near the slide of lockscreen. Tap to activate the flashlight.

This is a simple tweak but can be very useful at certain situations. Thanks to this tweak.

QuickGoogle

Here is a very nice tweak to use when you want to search on something in google. QuickGoogle is designed to launch almost anywhere in your iPhone. This is useful when making a quicksearch on google. Just search for “QuickGoogle” in Cydia, install and you’re good to go after restarting your springboard. Use Activator to assign the activator button for launching QuickGoogle. Future updates to this tweak may include news search or image search. Let’s just hope this will continue to provide better search app for google.

When Apple unveiled their latest upcoming iOS 5 last June 6 at WWDC, they have included a new feature called WiFi Sync. You know what’s funny about their new feature? It has been old in Cydia available only to iPhone jailbreak users. Take a look with the 2 logo on the left, Apple’s logo (right) is almost similar with Greg Hughes’ logo (left) who first developed WiFi Sync concept.

Although Apple is famous about the concept of originality, as they are very sensitive to developers or companies who may have copied their concept, we do not know if some of their innovations may have been developed through the ideas of the others.

A student at the University of Birmingham, England, Greg Hughes was on his 3rd year of Computer Science program and had developed the app called “WiFi Sync” last year but Apple has rejected it to be included in AppStore last May 2010. After a month, he said he had received a call from an Apple representative named Steve Rea before sending an official rejection email. The rep explained how his app is admirable but also quoting that unspecified security concerns and that it include things not specified in the developers’ kit.

Since then, his app WiFi Sync has been one of the best-selling app in Cydia Store. Priced at $9.99, you can wirelessly sync your iTunes library to your iPhone. And so, the WiFi Sync that Apple has now included in the new iOS 5 will also do the same thing. When asked about his reaction with what the Apple has unveiled, Hughes said:

“Obviously I was fairly shocked,” (referring to his reaction on Monday when he saw the new feature promoted on Apple’s website) “I’d been selling my app with that name and icon for at least a year. Apple knew that, as I’d submitted it to them, so it was surprising to see that.”

Well, I hope that Apple will give credits to this young but brilliant guy who obviously been stepped by the Apple’s huge foot. I am sure he will again developed app/tweak in the future.

Setting up your Hotmail email accounts is not so easy like the Gmail or Yahoo in your iPhone, just like I keen fully observed since I used Hotmail more often. The most possible reason with it is because Hotmail is from Microsoft (one of Apple’s competitors). But now, after Steve Jobs has announced the incoming iOS 5, one of the 200+ new features that iOS 5 has brought: Hotmail settings can be done easily, just like setting up your Gmail, AOL and Yahoo.

To setup Hotmail accounts in iOS 5, navigate through Settings app>Mail, Contacts, Calendars >Add Account > Windows Live Hotmail. Type your Hotmail email address and password and select the options you need to sync.

That’s it! Setting your Hotmail email is now easy.

iMessage: The future messaging service for iDevices.

How would you like to send free messages to your friends or anyone with iPhone? This new feature for iOS 5 will soon enable iDevice’s users to send unlimited text, photos, videos, locations and contacts via WiFi or 3G. It may be a threat to network carriers but still may boost their sells for iDevices (probably overpowering Blackberry services in the future).

Have you ever experience some situations when you want to take a picture for a great moment but wasn’t able to do it because your iPhone just can’t direct to the camera app immediately? One of the reasons I wanted an iPhone because of its great camera resolution compared to other brands. But the only problem I usually encounter is I always have a hard time navigating to the camera app when I needed the most.

Thanks to the upcoming iOS 5. With its cool new feature having a camera app icon in the lockscreen could definitely ease my mind. With just a single tap of your finger in the lockscreen, you can now open the iPhone camera and take a picture using the volume-up button. You can trim and edit picture immediately after you have taken it. That’s another great enhancement added to your iPhone.

Remember to stay away from updating your iOS until new jailbreak will come up if you want to preserve your jailbroken apps. Always follow us for more added features that iOS 5 has brought.

I have always been a great fan for virtual games, especially the RPG types (Role-Playing Games). One of the reasons I really aim for iPhone because I know that its retina display surpasses most of the smartphones available on the market, besides the flexibility that iPhone provides for users. Today, I want to share ome of my favorite iPhone games available in AppStore.

(Note: Infinity Blade is available in AppStore for $2.99. You need to jailbreak your iPhone first to be able to install this game for free though Installous.)

Infinity Blade

This is developed exclusively for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, Infinity  Blade is from Epic Games through ChAIR Entertainment. It includes high resolution graphics to enhance the visual capabilities of iPhone 4. Powered by the award-winning Unreal Engine 3, spectacular 3D character and environments brings to life the story of a lone knight’s pursuit to save civilization. Tap-to-move controls enable users to easily navigate throughout the game and explore the castle realm. Dozens of game items to master for leveling up your character to increase Attack, Health, Shield and Magic Skills.

Plot:

“For untold ages, the God King has ruled with an iron fist – his power is incalculable; his followers, legion. Now you must journey to the Dark Citadel to battle his Titans, one by one until you face the tyrant himself. As it has been for all your bloodline, this is your birthright – to free your people from an endless legacy of darkness. The immortal can be vanquished – but only if heart, mind and steel are one.”

Every day I am very excited for the new jailbreak apps that are being released by the developers of jailbreak community. This is the reason why I am always holding onto my iPhone knowing that somehow I can read new releases and news. Today, there are two new apps I would like to share for everyone, the “Recent/CallLog Delete” and “PagePusher.” Although these two are not so very impressive apps, but they are great in their features and admire the developers who made. Let’s take a look for this two.

Recent/CallLog Delete

In iPhone, the only option to delete a call is to delete all or all missed calls. Sometimes, there are situations for users that require deleting only specific phone numbers in their cal logs. That is why Recent/CallLog Delete app from BigBoss repo provides an option for users to delete a specific call by adding a delete button to it. See? A very simple app but useful for iPhone users. You can purchase Recent/CallLog Delete for $1.49 in Cydia.

PagePusher

Another app that brings color to your iPhone is PagePusher. This enables opening a page just like opening a page in a book. It’s cute and attractive for other iPhone users who are not into jailbreak yet. Try this app by adding Ryan Petrich’s repo: http://rpetri.ch/repo in Cydia and search for PagePusher after installing it.

Enjoy the latest jailbreak apps available only for jailbroken iPhones. Watch out for reviews on more coming apps only here at www.iphonshine.com.

SlideAway

How do you like to use your favorite apps without unlocking your iPhone? You think I’m joking? Here’s an app that makes it real. SlideAway, a new jailbreak tweak, has done a tremendous job in improving iOS’s great features by giving a chance the user to use their favorite apps even if the iPhone is locked.

According to details you can read in Cydia: “SlideAway brings substance to your lockscreen….” Easy customization for the right side and left side shortcuts together with Slide Up Dock by actually sliding up the bar. “Custom Dock” will allow you to choose up to 5 different apps to put them in the dock.

SlideAway is very easy to install. Just launch Cydia and search for it. Purchase the app for $2.99 and download to install.

SMS Signature

Signatures are common when sending an email. But if you find it useful in text messaging service, then here’s a new jailbreak app that can enhance your iPhone’s performance. SMS signature will only work for a jailbroken iPhone since you need to download it through Cydia to install this app.

As simple as “adding a custom signature to text messages”, SMS signature provides a better solution for people sending text messages for marketing or business.

Yesterday, I had posted about one of the great jailbreak apps available in Cydia. MobileNotifier Beta4, had just been updated to Beta5, is the last and final release that Peter Hajas will be doing before he will take a break. For no exact reason, he’s going to leave the MobileNotifier team with this last release whom he called “Ecstatic Eggo.” For Peter, “It’s the most revolutionary release since the project’s inception.”

Anyway, so what’s new with MobileNotifier Beta5? Of course, the most awaited feature that almost all jailbreak users wants: the MobileReply! As I have tested, you can reply immediately to text messages while within other applications. Its quick reply feature is so amazing that somehow I can think that the rumor regarding Peter was hired by Apple to improve iOS notification MAY be true. Despite of the reasons why Peter is leaving his team, I hope that he will always stick to his words that he will always provide and share open source apps.

More features that MobileNotifier Beta5 includes:

  • Full text message display in the notification dashboard.
  • Redesigned minimalist display.
  • New AlertDashboard in the lockscreen view.
  • You can dismiss unnecessary notifications in the popup alert screen.
  • Recall the most recent alert easily with an activator action. Then use MobileReply to reply to it.
  • Faster than before!

Thank you to MobileNotifier Beta5, I am now enjoying another great tweak for a jailbreak iPhone. Once again, MobileNotifier will only work if you jailbreak your iPhone.

If you are using iPhone for a long period of time and at the same time you had an Android phone, you can probably compare the two based on notifications that Android has the better features. While iPhones surpassed almost all the other brands in terms of apps, there are some points where it’s not dealing great. And this includes the push notification that looks like just a simple and unattractive type.

This is the reason why Peter Hajas (a famed jailbreak developer) has developed MobileNotifier, the key to better push notifications. Peter just filled the empty space where Apple had neglected.

You need to jailbreak your iPhone first before you can use this tweak. To install MobileNotifier Beta 4, launch Cydia and add to Sources: http://phajas.xen.prgmr.com/repo

MobileNotifier is free to download, so there’s no reason you will not try this tweak to experience better way of notifications because by default, iPhone just doesn’t possess this ability. When you have MobileNotiifier installed, you will have better control on the notifications coming and gives you the option on how to view them. No matter what app you’re into, MobileNotifier shows you notifications on top of your screen through a sleek bar design. When you have notifications coming; you have the option to Open or Later. Tapping Open will direct you to the app sending the notification while taping Later will send the notification to the list for viewing later.

Get the latest version Beta 4 for MobileNotifier via Cydia, the jailbreak hub, to fully enjoy and explore the greatness that iPhone has brought.

Long before the jailbreak community has emerged dominantly, there was “Installer”, the pioneer in jail break app store before Cydia and Icy. As I had covered in my previous post about Icy, Installer has now being launched by the same developer.  And now, they have successfully ported to iOS 4.3.3, brought to you by Infini-Dev Team from their website’s official blog.

Although Installer’s store is limited because it is actually working differently from Cydia, it’s still a great success for the Infini-Dev Team to come up something like this. This is a great challenge for Saurik, the man behind Cydia, to enhance and create more added features (not to mention the commercialism that is occuring in Cydia). I bet Installer will be doing great when the new repositories will come online in the future. We hope that somehow, there will be great developments to further enhance the features that Installer has brought.

Unfortunately, to install Installer, you have to launch in Cydia by adding in the Sources. Type in: http://fr0stdev.co.cc/repo and add. Search for Installer 4.0 at Cydia and install it. I recommend restarting your iPhone after installing and then Installer will be ready.

Installer will only worked for a jailbroken iPhone. Once you have installed, launch Installer from your springboard and you can now browse for the available apps for you to choose. Enjoy the new store for jailbreak apps aside from Cydia and Icy!

Full Charge Alert

When you are having an iPhone, it’s like your iPhone will do things smoother than what you usually do. Not like other smartphones, iPhone can be modified in the best way to fulfill the users’ needs. One more great app I have recently tried was Full Charge Alert. This app will alarm if your iPhone has finished charging. This is why I really need this app since I usually charge my iPhone while sleeping and unplugged it if I woke up. For $1.95, Full Charge Alert is available through Cydia in the BigBoss repo. Though it is just a little tweak, this is useful for someone like me who always caught my iPhone in the charger. This app can be customized through the Settings app.

FBUploader is a simple and easy application for iPhone that may be included in the coming iOS 5. But as for now, this app will provide a way for users to directly upload the picture taken from iPhone camera roll to Facebook. It’s actually integrating Facebook with the iOS. Basically, you need to open Facebook prior to uploading a certain picture. With FBUploader, you do not need to launch Facebook since it adds an option to the bottom of the OPTIONS menu in the Photos app. You will be able to upload pictures to Facebook easily after you had authenticated through Facebook connect. FBUploader is available through Cydia for $1.99.

Enjoy these two simple yet useful apps that can only be used if you jailbreak your iPhone. Need to jailbreak your iPhone? Click here.
