On the October 4th iPhone event entitled “Let’s Talk iPhone” held by Apple in their Cupertino Headquarters, newly appointed CEO Tim Cook announced that the iOS 5 will be available after 1 week and the iPhone 4S will start shipping in the 14th of October. Now, the iOS 5 is ready for public downloads to everyone who wish to update their iDevices through iTunes.
A day before the official iOS 5 was launched; Apple’s www.iCloud.com was live ahead of time to give way for the latest operating system. The iOS 5 is necessary in order to use the wireless syncing of your iDevice and backup service at the same time enjoying the iCloud service that will soon replace MobileME for added security of your iDevices.
As of this time, only tethered jailbreak is available for the iOS 5. This means that you need to re-jailbreak every time you’ll reboot your iPhone, which is not the ideal type we are looking of. But it is great to immediately upgrade to the iOS 5 when you are not so very dependent on the jailbreak apps so you can now experience the latest improvements brought by the new iOS 5. New features include the new Notifications Center which is totally different from the iOS 4. This comes with a slick pull-down list of pending notifications and the other lockscreen notification which is very similar with the popular jailbreak tweak called “LockInfo.”
Here is a video that will take you to the great features of the iOS 5.

iCloud is a cloud computing service from Apple which enables users to store music, photos, apps, calendars, documents and more for download to multiple iDevices such as iPhones, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac or PC. It will soon replace the current MobileMe program from Apple which syncs data for email, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, notes, to-do lists and other data.
It is like you are having a hard drive in the sky (virtual storage) but more than that; it is the easiest way to access everything on all your iDevices. Now, you can access all your data almost anywhere.
For now, Apple has launched the iCloud Beta (www.icloud.com) on the web. As it turns out, this is only available for developers at the meantime. The new iCloud website features web apps for Mail, Calendar, Contacts and iWork documents. The FindMyiPhone service is also integrated and all your information and iWork content can then be accessed through www.icloud.com if you have an accunt. If you want to try the service, you need to register a developer account for $99 a year and in addition to iCloud, you can also access exclusive development tools and documentation. The iCloud service is said to be launched together with the iOS 5 in the coming months before holidays.
Prices for the iCloud service are the following:
5GB: free
10GB: $20 (15GB total)
20GB: $40 (25GB total)
50GB: $100 (55GB total)
The entire interface of iCloud’s web portal is much likely in an iOS device as you can see. The web apps resemble the icons in your iPhone or iPad which looks easy to use.
How excited are you in the upcoming iCloud service?

As we all know that everyone is anticipating the release of Jailbreak for iPad 2, I never thought that it was released sooner as I expected. Comex, the developer for JailbreakMe 3.0, has now released the latest and easiest way to jailbreak your iPhone. Despite the leak regarding the JailbreakMe beta version, Comex has still managed to continue his work which will also work for iPhone.
Perhaps Comex was really upset about the leak and was in a hurry to finish the jailbreak ahead of time. Anyways, we still owe him the thanks for the effort he had exerted. And the people who made the leak, they owe an apology to Comex for what they’ve done.

Only the following iDevices and FirmWares will the JailbreakMe 3.0 works:
- iPad 1: 4.3 to 4.3.3
- iPad 2: 4.3.3
- iPhone 3GS: 4.3 to 4.3.3
- iPhone 4: 4.3 to 4.3.3
- iPhone 4 CDMA: 4.2.6 to 4.2.8
- iPod touch 3g: 4.3, 4.3.2, 4.3.3
- iPod touch 4g: 4.3 to 4.3.3
Here are the easy steps to jailbreak your iPhone with JailbreakME 3.0:
- From your iPhone, open www.JailbreakMe.com using Safari.
- Tap “FREE” and “INSTALL” to start.
- Cydia will now be installed in your iPhone.
- After it’s finished, your iPhone must be jailbroken.
- Reboot your iPhone.
The following video will also help for you to jailbreak your iPhone.
Note:Clear the cache and cookies from your Safari and remove the apps from the multi-tasking tray and reboot your iPhone in case problems may occur.

3D iPhone Accessory: Pic3D Sheet
Nowadays, everywhere you go seems like the 3D technology is on the rise. LCD TVs, movie theaters and even mobile devices are now upgrading for this kind of era. This means that since mobile devices (like smartphones and tablets) will be the target for this rising technology. And since iPhone is the number one gadget that everyone are hoping to have, it’s great features also comes great enhancements for 3D technology. What’s better? It does not require any 3D-specific hardware.
During the 3D and Virtual Reality Expo in Tokyo this week, Global Wave (the company behind Pic3D) introduced their new 3D accessory. Just like the technology used in 3D glasses, the Pic3D sheet converts your iPhone (or other iDevice) into a 3D display using a thin lenticular lens system to combine side-by-side images.
There is a thicker screen protector, much like of a regular iPhone screen protector, which covers the Pic3D sheet. Once the whole sheet was installed, 3D images will pass from your iPhone through the Pic3D sheet. Global Wave provides an application which needs to be installed first on your iPhone to further enhance the quality of the 3D videos.
This technology is not limited only to iDevices; it can also be installed to laptops, LCD TVs and Tablets. The application is compatible to iOS and windows. Although there is no exact date for this technology to appear in the market, some says it will run around $25.
How do you like to have a 3D iPhone in your pocket?

Have you ever experienced when your iPhone cannot connect or search for the WiFi network near you? I often tried this situation when visiting a coffee shop in the mall. This is because the iOS that Apple has provided to all iDevices really neglect the WiFi networks with less quality for users to view. Although it helps iDevices’ users to prevent from experiencing poor web browsing, this also paralyzed your device when searching for a web connection.

WiFi Booster, as it was called, will now prevent the prevention of showing all the networks available in your range. Its main purpose is to lessen the signal threshold at which WiFi hotspots are shown in Settings. To install WiFi Booster, you need to jailbreak first your iPhone. When you have a jailbroken iPhone already, launch Cydia and search for WiFi Booster which is available from BigBoss repo. The current price for this app is $1.99 but its worth is far cheaper after it will give you a better network range. Another great feature that WiFi Booster has offered is it doesn’t add any extra icons for your settings. Its settings are directly installed to your iPhone’s WiFi tab. After installing it from Cydia, you can open your WiFi tab settings and you can see the difference. Aside from displaying all the available networks, you can also see the MAC address of each router.

Thanks to the developer of WiFi Booster, I can now have a better range of networks for my iPhone!

iOS 5 is Now Here!
During the Apple’s Wordwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held last June 6, 2011, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the iOS 5. Later in that day Apple had posted a 5-minute video in their website regarding the much awaited iOS 5.
So what’s new with iOS 5? What are the benefits it has brought for iDevices’ users? Well, for everyone out there who are fan on jailbreak, stay away from updating the latest iOS. For those who do not know about jailbreaking, perhaps they are very excited to update their iDevices. So, let’s take a look about the new features that iOS 5 has for everyone.
Great features are being added to iOS 5 like Notifications Center, NewsStand, Twitter and Reminder. Although some of the added features seems to be gotten from jailbreak community concepts, like the Notifications by Peter Hajas (who’s now probably working with Apple as he quoted on his tweet). A new challenge has now come for the jailbreak developers since new iOS means new method of jailbreaking will soon be needed to cope up with the latest iOS.
No matter what new things will come for Apple iDevices, the jailbreak community is there to developed new apps or tweaks. More thanks to them and to people who are dedicated in creating the best open source software.
Stay tuned to www.iphoneshine.com for the latest news in iPhone and the jailbreak community.

Long before the jailbreak community has emerged dominantly, there was “Installer”, the pioneer in jail break app store before Cydia and Icy. As I had covered in my previous post about Icy, Installer has now being launched by the same developer. And now, they have successfully ported to iOS 4.3.3, brought to you by Infini-Dev Team from their website’s official blog.

Although Installer’s store is limited because it is actually working differently from Cydia, it’s still a great success for the Infini-Dev Team to come up something like this. This is a great challenge for Saurik, the man behind Cydia, to enhance and create more added features (not to mention the commercialism that is occuring in Cydia). I bet Installer will be doing great when the new repositories will come online in the future. We hope that somehow, there will be great developments to further enhance the features that Installer has brought.
Unfortunately, to install Installer, you have to launch in Cydia by adding in the Sources. Type in: http://fr0stdev.co.cc/repo and add. Search for Installer 4.0 at Cydia and install it. I recommend restarting your iPhone after installing and then Installer will be ready.

Installer will only worked for a jailbroken iPhone. Once you have installed, launch Installer from your springboard and you can now browse for the available apps for you to choose. Enjoy the new store for jailbreak apps aside from Cydia and Icy!

I’ve always been looking for apps that will enhance the capability of loading YouTube videos faster than ever. Just when I woke up this morning, I read one Cydia tweak called “TCP Optimizer” that claims it will improve the network throughput. Works best in YouTube and other applications when you are connected via WiFi (3G is not included). Apple TV users connected via LAN are NOT encouraged.
Installing TCP Optimizer is fast and easy. It is a free tweak provided by Pushfix. Just launch Cydia and navigate to Sources>Edit>Add Source. Type “http://cydia.pushfix.info/” and wait for Cydia to load after clicking Add Source. Once done, return to Cydia and search for TCP Optimizer. Click Install and wait and until finish. I recommend restarting your iPhone after installing.
After testing to my iPhone, watching YouTube videos has improved. Although I am not pretty sure that it has enhanced, having some developments like this in the jailbreak world is definitely exciting. It also encourages more developers to explore in this side, especially on 3G network.
I have to share this to my friends so they too can compare if there is an improvement in YouTube and some other applications.

So, what’s the difference to jailbreak your iPhone 4.3.3 with PwnageTool from RedSn0w? First of all, PwnageTool can only be used in Mac. Second, PwnageTool preserves your current baseband, thus you will not worry if you value your unlocked iPhone 4. Other reason includes, you can make a custom firmware which cannot be done by RedSn0w.
Here are the steps to jailbreak your iPhone 4.3.3 using PwnageTool in Mac:
- Download the latest version of PwnageTool (that is 4.3.3.1) and iOS 4.3.3.

5. This time, you will select if Pwnage should activate your iPhone. If you are with the official carrier, uncheck it. Otherwise, check to activate your iPhone.

Since 1 week ago that Apple has launched the latest firmware for iOS, which is 4.3.3, I decided to try it for myself before I am going to write about the topic. Unsurprisingly, I am not disappointed again. Thanks to the Dev Team for their great work in developing the redsn0w 0.9.6rc 15, the tool I used to jailbreak my iPhone 4 with FW 4.3.3. Redsn0w will work for both Mac and Windows for Apple devices running 4.3.3 except for iPad2.
First of all, always update your iTunes to the latest version. Make sure that your device is in FW 4.3.3. If not, update first through iTunes to achieve iOS 4.3.3.

- Download RedSn0w 0.9.6rc15 and iOS 4.3.3 and save it in a folder easy for you to find (or in the desktop).
- Unzip RedSnow and launch .exe file. Browse for the firmware you had just downloaded.
- RedSn0w will prepare to jailbreak your iPhone. Wait for a few seconds. Select “Cydia” to be included in the installation.
- Turn off your iPhone and make sure it is connected to the computer. To continue, click “Next”.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to get your iPhone in DFU mode. You will have to press the Home and Power buttons in this procedure. Make sure to follow.
- If you had successfully turned your iPhone in DFU mode, RedSn0w will now start to inject the jailbreak process in your iPhone. Wait for RedSnow to do the job and it should be done in a couple of minutes.
- Your iPhone will reboot once the process is completed. Cydia icon will now be present in your iPhone.
Congratulations on your newly jailbroken iPhone with FirmWare version 4.3.3!

Ever thought of bringing your laptop or desktop anywhere you go without any hassle? Well, the topic I am going to discuss is the main reason why I really aimed to have an iPhone before. A review of my favorite application for iPhone, the LogMein Ignition!
For those who are new in hearing this app, you have probably wondered why I included this as a topic for iphoneshine.com. Primarily because this will help a lot in our everyday lives, not just for me, but for everyone out there who valued technology and time as much as I do. Another reason is, I got this app after I jailbreak my iPhone. The price for LogMein Ignition in AppStore is $29.99. In Installous, it’s free!
Here are some of the features I really enjoyed using Ignition:
- Remote access to your host computer (Mac or PC).
- Move mouse, click or scroll on your host computer.
- View files or folders with File Manager to one or more computers.
- Transfer files between remote computers.
- Wake a sleeping computer using Wake-on-LAN.
- Zoom in and out via pinch-screen navigation.
- Can use full on-screen keyboard.
- You can remote control multiple computers.
- View online or offline status of your registered computers.
- This application can also be used by iPod touch and iPad.
Having this app in your iPhone is like having your laptop or desktop with you. Just make sure that your host computer is powered ON or you can simply ask for someone at home to turn it ON for you. Use the app to log in your computer account. Give it a shot and enjoy!

VIA-powered iPad clone
Granted, there have been myriad of clones of iPad till date, but this is clearly the best I have seen so far. It sports display size similar to the iPad and runs Android OS. Heck, even the resolution is same – 1024×768. Sadly, everything else about this iPad Clone is just shabby, including its VIA 8505 processor clocked at 400MHz.

Priced at somewhere around 150 dollars (999 Chinese Yuan), it delivers less than stellar performance. Any video with resolution higher than QVGA (320×240) will run like a slideshow. Oh, and the back is all plastic (iPad’s back is metal). Read the rest of this entry

Smaller iPads coming later this year
According to an online report, Apple is planning to launch a smaller version of the iPad after the Q1 2011. With the launch of the smaller iPad, Apple will be able to bring the price under 400 dollar price tag.

The device is rumored to sport 5-7-inch display and will target the highly portable mobile device market and the consumers that just want to read stuff while on-the-go. Rumor has it that Apple has already made its prototype that carries a 6-inch display. Read more about this rumored small iPad

Hulu coming to iPad – not for free
According to the recent rumors, Hulu is indeed preparing an app for the Apple iPad. However, it won’t be free and folks at Hulu will have a tough job in getting it approved as it would directly rival the Apple’s TV subscription service. But, if they offer the mobile version of Hulu that runs in Safari, then it will next to impossible for the Apple to block it.
