Since the exploit of JailbreakME 3.0 was released and was used more than 2 million times by iDevices, especially the iPad 2, Apple has released the 2nd update which is iOS 4.3.5. According to Apple, the release of their recent update for iOS is to fix apparent security vulnerability with certificate validation. The update is now available in iTunes by updating your iDevice upon connecting to your computer.

For anyone who is using an untethered jailbroken iPhone with iOS 4.3.3, obviously DO NOT update to the latest version of iOS or else you will lose your jailbreak. It is also advised to save your SHSH blob to prevent losing your jailbreak in case accidental update may occur.

As expected, the Dev Team has now updated RedSn0w to provide a tethered jailbreak for anyone using iOS 4.3.5 with its latest version. It may be just a tethered one but this could help to anyone who has forgotten to save their SHSH blobs.

Surprisingly, the Gevey SIM also will now unlock iPhones running iOS 4.3.5. It will work perfectly for iOS 4.3.5 (except iPad 2) even if Apple has blocked Gevey SIM in iOS 5 Beta 2. Perhaps the iOS 4.3.5 will now be the last update that Apple will be releasing prior to iOS 5. In the meantime, if you are enjoying your jailbreak iPhone now, just don’t do anything and wait for another tethered jailbreak that may come.

If you have been doing jailbreaking for quite some time, then you are familiar with the steps on how to save your SHSH blobs. But to be fair with everyone, let’s tackle the topic on how to do it. As with my previous post, it was all about SHSH blobs and its importance. In all jailbreaking guides, you can always read ‘Make sure to save your SHSH blob before updating’ reminder because an SHSH blob is a signature file which is verified to the Apple server to ensure your iPhone 4 (or other iDevices) is running the latest version.

This is how it works. If you will restore to a previous version of an iOS, Apple will not allow you no matter what your reasons are. To make restoring possible to older versions of iOS, you need to send a request to other server (either Local or Designated) that sends an SHSH blob (which was saved by you) back to iTunes faking that it’s a current version.

Steps in saving your SHSH blob

Though there are other methods in saving your SHSH blob like iSHSHit and AutoSHSH, I will show you the simplest but reliable method using TinyUmbrella.

  1. Download TinyUmbrella.
  2. Launch TinyUmbrella by right clicking and choose “Run as Administrator.”
  3. Connect your iPhone to your PC.
  4. Click “Save my SHSH” and wait for TinyUmbrella to finish its task.

That’s it! Saving your SHSH is now done. A copy of your SHSH will also be send to Cydia for request to be saved in Saurik’s server.

“Why save your SHSH blobs?” This is a common question to everyone who is new into the jailbreaking world. First of all, you may ask “What is SHSH blob?” SHSH stands for Signature HaSH. It is a 1024-bit signature used to verify the firmware on most iOS devices. According to Wikipedia, SHSH blobs are used in a challenge-response authentication of the firmware, where the challenge key comes in a combination of a hash of the firmware and the Exclusive Chip ID (ECID) of the device. To make it simple, an SHSH blob is just basically what Apple uses to verify the firmware version of your iOS device. It’s not just an app which can be downloaded anytime you want. Your SHSH blob is a device specific, much like a fingerprint which is different for every human being.

How important it is? If you don’t know or you don’t care to jailbreak your iPhone 4, no need to save your SHSH blob and it’s better for you to update immediately to a newer iOS version. But if you are wise enough to jailbreak your iPhone so you can benefit most of the features, this is the most important thing to do before you update to any newer iOS firmware.

Since SHSH blob uses static key (doesn’t change) and you are using the same ECID, it is possible for you to save your own SHSH blob which you can use later on to downgrade your iPhone if you accidentally updated the firmware to an un-jailbreakable version.

Once again, make sure to save your SHSH blob since iOS 4.3.4 was out now.

While some of us are already using iPhones for a long period of time, some of are also new to this device. If you are one of the later, don’t be too excited. Instead, you should know the basics of having an iPhone, especially the security features it has brought which are not available to other brands. For those who are using iPhones in the past but didn’t know this important reminder yet, I hope this helps for you.

Now, what I am talking about is the security feature that iPhone has possessed since the start of iOS version 4. Up until now, with the latest iOS 4.3.3 and 4.3.4, Find My iPhone app is freely distributed. As what its name says, Find My iPhone is a tracking feature to locate a missing iPhone 4, iPad or iPod Touch 4th gen.

If you lose your iPhone 4 because you have dropped it or maybe somebody stole it, you can then hop into a computer to follow the GPS coordinates of the iPhone on a Google Map. It will also trigger a beeping sound which is loud enough to hear from under a couch nearby. If you think that you really cannot get it back, you can either lock your iPhone or wipe the data contained (but you cannot find it anymore).

You need to activate first the Find My iPhone feature before you lose your iPhone. Here are the steps:

  1. Update to the latest iOS (4.3.3 recommended).
  2. Go to Settings App in your iPhone 4. Tap “Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Add Account and tap MobileME.
  3. Enter your Apple ID (Username and Password). If you don’t have one yet, you can create one from there. Tap next.
  4. Check your email for a verification email from Apple and click the link to verify and sign-in with your Apple ID.
  5. Go back to Settings and Turn ON the Find My iPhone feature. Confirm to finish.

If you will lose your iPhone, sign in to www.mobileme.com using your Apple ID so you can locate your missing iPhone. You can also install the Find My iPhone App to any other iDevice.

This is very important news for everyone, especially to jailbreakers. Since Apple is no longer giving anyone the chance to update or restore your iDevice to iOS 4.3.3. If you have not previously updated your iPhone to 4.3.3, the signing window for updating your iOS could directly give you iOS 4.3.4.

Since Apple has been finding some ways to combat the jailbreak community, the iOS 4.3.4 was released to fix the vulnerabilities done by JailbreakME 3.0. Not only that, its aim is also to kill permanently the untethered jailbreak for your iDevice.

MuscleNerd, the Dev team member, had posted his tweet regarding the step that Apple had taken. He also hopes that there are no jailbreakers who are not stuck on iOS 5 Beta for their iPad 2 3G experiments who had forgotten to save their SHSH blobs on iOS 4.3.3 or below. If that’s what happened to you, you can no longer downgrade and keep your jailbreak.

Once again, if you have jailbroken already your iPhone with iOS 4.3.3, do not do anything! That’s the most stable and up to date untethered jailbreak available around. You don’t want to lose that.

There is a lesser possibility that a new jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 will be uncovered since the official iOS 5 will be launched in a couple of months. We’re not thinking negatively, but who knows someone will uncover it accidentally.  But then, don’t rush on upgrading to the latest iOS if it will be available since bugs are always present for newly launched iOS.

Yesterday, Apple has released the new iOS firmware 4.3.4 to combat the pDF vulnerability uncovered in the latest version of JailbreakME. Today, RedSn0w had just released the jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 courtesy from the Dev Team. This is an updated version of RedSn0w, which is 0.9.8b3, to provide a TETHERED jailbreak on iOS 4.3.4.

It is highly advised to all jailbreakers not to update their iOS to 4.3.4, especially with the iPad 2 which only have one choice of jailbreak process (which is JailbreakME 3.0).

iPad 2 running on 4.3.4 will be impossible to jailbreak using RedSn0w, so you really should stay with 4.3.3 and jailbreak using JailbreakME 3.0. This is because Apple only released iOS 4.3.4 in order to combat the exploit used by JailbreakME 3.0 so updating your iDevice is pointless. Be sure to back up your SHSH blobs as soon as possible in order to avoid inconvenience whenever accidental updates will occur.

JailbreakME 3.0, the untethered jailbreak tool which is easy and fast to use, is still the most convenient way to jailbreak your iDevice running iOS 4.3.3. Just don’t forget to install PDF Patcher 2 to remain secure from any malicious malwares in the web, which is also available from Cydia after jailbreaking with JailbreakME 3.0.

Please remember that the latest jailbreak from RedSn0w is TETHERED, meaning you need to jailbreak again whenever your iPhone will reboot. For your convenience, stay with the iOS 4.3.3 and wait for further news. We’ve got you covered!

Apple has acknowledged the issue last week regarding the PDF exploit by JailbreakME 3.0 and now has released the latest FirmWare 4.3.4 for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. This release from Apple is for the purpose of fixing the exploit made by JailbreakME 3.0 in all iDevices running iOS 4.3.3. Security concerns from experts had risen that the vulnerability in iOS could be exploited in a similar way by malicious websites. The update is now available in iTunes whenever you will connect your iPhone to your computer.

Avoid updating your iPhone to iOS 4.3.4 if you want to stay with a jailbroken one. Remember to install PDF Patcher 2 to cover the hole made in the exploit. Be sure to backup your SSH blobs in the event you need to downgrade.

Thanks to Comex for providing us the easy and fast jailbreak process. For everyone out there who has not yet jailbreak their iPhone, do not update to iOS 4.3.4 also and try jailbreaking with JailbreakME 3.0 while still on iOS 4.3.3.

Do you know that some of the programmers working in Apple were once a member of the jailbreak community? Yes, it’s true. Perhaps Steve Jobs should also thank the jailbreak community for the brilliant developers who somehow made the iPhone sales increased over the years.

If you have been jailbreaking iPhones in the past, probably you are familiar with BiteSMS, an alternate for iOS’ built-in SMS app but with added more features. When you use JailbeakME 3.0 to jailbreak an iPhone recently, then you will notice that the BiteSMS you used to install will not be working since it will crash when sending an SMS and thereby letting you to restore your iPhone.

Now, BiteSMS 5.5 Beta 1 is now available in Cydia that will work perfectly with iPhones jailbroken with JailbreakME 3.0.

Although BiteSMS is a paid SMS app, the great feature it possesses is incomparable with the basic iOS SMS app plus you can put smileys, schedule your text messages to be sent, use signatures and even enable passcode locks. You can also buy a subscription to BiteSMS messaging feature that enables you to save money since BiteSMS charges lesser than your carrier.

The BiteSMS 5.5 Beta 1 fixes all known conflicts with JailbreakME 3.0. Please note that this is just a beta version so there are possibilities that bugs are present on its own. To install BiteSMS 5.5 Beta 1, open up Cydia and make sure to add to your repo: http://cydia.bitesms.com. Download and install BiteSMS 5.5.

If you haven’t tried jailbreaking your iPhone with JailbreakME 3.0, please check our post for a step-by-step guide.

Steve Jobs, the Apple CEO, unveiled the first ever Apple iPhone to the world last January 9, 2007. Later on the 29th of June that year, the iPhone was launched. It’s funny how other people would make iPhone the basis of comparison when rating other smartphones. Four years have passed, iPhone got only 2 models in the smartphone industry yet the tremendous success made Apple to be on top despite other competitors have more models.

Continuing the dominance in mobile phone industry, Apple has found itself on top of the list of smartphone OEM (Origanal Equipment Manufacturer). The ComScore data below shows that 76.8 million people owned smartphones in the United States.

Apple accounted for 26.8% (with just two handsets available) followed by RIM (Blackberry) at 24.7%. HTC managed to be 3rd at 11.8% though they have released a lot of models lately.

As some would say that Apple will be bringing more iPhone models in the market due to the fact that Google’s Android is widely used for other smartphone manufacturers. This is to widen the iPhone product line so that consumers can choose the right iPhone for them.

Hopefully we can see the release of an iPhone 5/4s later this year. This would greatly help Apple to continue its success on the OEM market share, whether more models of iPhone will be launched. As what Jobs told 4 years ago that they will “reinvent the phone”, and they really did. Enjoy the most of your iPhone!

NASA Space Shuttle ATLANTIS is carrying two iPhone 4s to the International Space Station (ISS) launched last July 8, 2011 for experimentation. This is the last mission associated with Atlantis but iPhone fans will always remember this event since this is the first time that space explorations included a smartphone (iPhone 4) and was part of the study.

The two iPhones, according to NASA and Apple, are “space certified” and was loaded with specifically developed app called SpaceLab for iOS. This app will allow astronauts to conduct various experiments via the app’s features such as Limb Tracker, State Acquisition, Lifecycle Flight Instrument (LFI) and Sensor Calibration. For users who want to experience space exploration app, SpaceLab for iOS is now available for download at iTunes at $0.99. This app is identical to the version brought by the scientist to ISS even though designed for use in space.

Limb Tracker

The Limb Tracker will allow astronauts to measure altitude above earth’s surface by measuring the curvature of the earth’s limb. This is equivalent to “manual” horizon sensor.

Sensor Calibration

The Sensor Calibration experiment will take a series of photos using iPhone 4. The images combined with the transmitted information using three-axis gyro and accelerometer will help improve the knowledge and accuracy of subsequent measurements.

State Acquisition

Astronauts will take photos of the Earth, and manually line up a coastline model from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) with the captured photos.

Lifecycle Flight Instrument (LFI)

This experiment will assess iPhone’s capability to withstand the harsh rigor of space flights. This will also attempt to detect and measure radiation exposure and help Engineers determine how well an iPhone functions.

Almost everyone that has an iPad 2 was happy to jailbreak using JailbreakME 3.0 despite some bugs that needed to be fixed. The huge number of hits in the website of www.JailbreakME.com was up to 1 Million hits in just the first day and more than half was able to download and installed the tweak (that means they had jailbreak their iDevice). After you have jailbreak your iPhone, it was now vulnerable to malicious malware that are widely spread in the web. Thus, a great possibility may occur that some hackers will use the hole that Comex has done in his exploit of your iPhone. JailbreakMe 3.0 works through web software to gain root-level access to your iPhone easily which some people may also do.

You need to install PDF Patcher 2 through Cydia in order to close the hole Comex has used for JailbreakME 3.0. He developed this patch to safeguard your iPhone form malwares and viruses scattered in some websites (just in case you happen to browse). Basically, PDF Patcher 2 will close the vulnerability that is used in his jailbreak tool.

Installing PDF Patcher 2 is highly recommended once you have jailbroken your iPhone using JailbreakME (other methods o jailbreaking doesn’t need this procedure). To install, launch Cydia. Search for “PDF Patcher 2” and click “INSTALL”.

The following video will also guide you in installing PDF Patcher 2.

As we all know that everyone is anticipating the release of Jailbreak for iPad 2, I never thought that it was released sooner as I expected. Comex, the developer for JailbreakMe 3.0, has now released the latest and easiest way to jailbreak your iPhone. Despite the leak regarding the JailbreakMe beta version, Comex has still managed to continue his work which will also work for iPhone.

Perhaps Comex was really upset about the leak and was in a hurry to finish the jailbreak ahead of time. Anyways, we still owe him the thanks for the effort he had exerted. And the people who made the leak, they owe an apology to Comex for what they’ve done.

Only the following iDevices and FirmWares will the JailbreakMe 3.0 works:

  • iPad 1: 4.3 to 4.3.3
  • iPad 2: 4.3.3
  • iPhone 3GS: 4.3 to 4.3.3
  • iPhone 4: 4.3 to 4.3.3
  • iPhone 4 CDMA: 4.2.6 to 4.2.8
  • iPod touch 3g: 4.3, 4.3.2, 4.3.3
  • iPod touch 4g: 4.3 to 4.3.3

Here are the easy steps to jailbreak your iPhone with JailbreakME 3.0:

  1. From your iPhone, open www.JailbreakMe.com using Safari.
  2. Tap “FREE” and “INSTALL” to start.
  3. Cydia will now be installed in your iPhone.
  4. After it’s finished, your iPhone must be jailbroken.
  5. Reboot your iPhone.

The following video will also help for you to jailbreak your iPhone.

Note:Clear the cache and cookies from your Safari and remove the apps from the multi-tasking tray and reboot your iPhone in case problems may occur.

Nowadays, everywhere you go seems like the 3D technology is on the rise. LCD TVs, movie theaters and even mobile devices are now upgrading for this kind of era. This means that since mobile devices (like smartphones and tablets) will be the target for this rising technology. And since iPhone is the number one gadget that everyone are hoping to have, it’s great features also comes great enhancements for 3D technology. What’s better? It does not require any 3D-specific hardware.
During the 3D and Virtual Reality Expo in Tokyo this week, Global Wave (the company behind Pic3D) introduced their new 3D accessory. Just like the technology used in 3D glasses, the Pic3D sheet converts your iPhone (or other iDevice) into a 3D display using a thin lenticular lens system to combine side-by-side images.
There is a thicker screen protector, much like of a regular iPhone screen protector, which covers the Pic3D sheet. Once the whole sheet was installed, 3D images will pass from your iPhone through the Pic3D sheet. Global Wave provides an application which needs to be installed first on your iPhone to further enhance the quality of the 3D videos.
This technology is not limited only to iDevices; it can also be installed to laptops, LCD TVs and Tablets. The application is compatible to iOS and windows. Although there is no exact date for this technology to appear in the market, some says it will run around $25.
How do you like to have a 3D iPhone in your pocket?

Every day, I am very excited to search for the latest and interesting jailbreak tweaks that are coming out from the jailbreak community. Today, I will make a review for jailbreak tweaks Custom Lock and Missed Reminder which are now available in Cydia for iPhone jailbreak users to download.

Custom Lock

As the tweak name says, customization of your lockscreen by adding a text will now be possible replacing the clock and date while your iPhone is locked. To download this tweak, launch Cydia and search for “Custom Lock” if you have added already the repo: http://rpetri.ch/repo/. Install Custom Lock and go to iPhone Settings App to input the text you want to appear in your lock screen. You can either change the clock and date or both.

Color your iPhone lockscreen with the new customization tweak by Custom Lock, developed by Tyler Nettleton.

Missed Reminder

As Apple continue their innovation of the new iOS 5 which will be coming later this year, there is one feature some of the iPhone users needed to have in their iDevices. Just like Blackberry smartphones, a tiny LED will flash whenever notifications are left, especially missed calls. Today, I have also read another interesting jailbreak tweak that is available in Cydia.

The MissedReminder, available for $0.99 in Cydia, is a tweak that will allow your iPhone 4’s LED flash to blink whenever you had a missed call. There will be no icon added, but the settings can be changed at the Settings App.

This is one of the tweaks that maybe included again in the upcoming iOS 5. We’ll just hold on to that. Enjoy!

Last week I wrote an article about Gevey SIM that will probably unlock iPhones running on iOS 5 to be launched later this year. Sad to say, it’s still to be a tethered unlock. But now, the manufacturer of Gevey SIM has updated their latest innovation that will be more interesting than the previous products.

This process will now permanently unlock your iPhone 4 running on all FirmWares iOS 4 and basebands. All you need is the Gevey Ultra SIM and a jailbroken iPhone 4. Take note: Gevey Ultra SIM will work only if you jailbreak your iPhone first. In the previous Gevey SIM, the process is quite long. Now, the process of dialing 112 was eliminated.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Remove the SIM card from your iPhone (I assume you know how to do it). Cut your SIM card in order to fit for the Gevey SIM that is included in the package. Be very careful not to cut the circuit (metal part).
  2. This process really need you iPhone to be jailbroken: Launch Cydia and add to your Sources: http://cydia.furiousmod.com. Search for “FuriousMod” after adding the source and install it. An error message will pop up “No SIM card installed.” Neglect the message and turn off your iPhone.
  3. With your SIM card on top of the Gevey Ultra SIM, place it on the SIM tray and insert back to your iPhone.
  4. Turn ON your iPhone and wait for the signal to appear. Don’t do anything until your iPhone picks up a signal ignoring all the errors that may come up.
  5. Turn ON Data Roaming in order to get a 3G network.

Enjoy your newly unlocked iPhone, which is better than software unlocked, in just a few minutes.
