This is not how services like YourAppleiPhone.com work. We actually wrote about the way an official iPhone unlock works last year, but I guess it’s time to refresh everybody’s memory… How can an iPhone be permanently unlocked? First, in order to be officially and permanently unlocked, your iPhone IMEI (your iPhone fingerprints) has to be added to Apple’s database of unlocked iPhones. For example, if you live in France where you can buy an unlocked iPhone from SFR of the official carriers, this carrier will send your IMEI to Apple, which will add it to its database of whitelisted/unlocked iPhones. Once added to the database, you need to sync your iPhone in iTunes. By communicating with Apple, iTunes will see that your device is whitelisted and will remove the lock on your iPhone, for good. How can a site like www.YourAppleiPhone.com unlock your iPhone? No, YourAppleiPhone.com didn’t hack into Apple’s database. They’re unlocking iPhones in almost complete legality. The way they are doing it is by having accomplices at major phone carriers that offer legit iPhone unlocks. For example, the guys at YourAppleiPhone.com may know someone (and most likely pay him a lot of money) that works for T-Mobile Germany, a European carrier that offers unlocked iPhones. The accomplice is sent a few IMEIs to add to Apple’s database on behalf of T-Mobile and voila, a bunch of iPhones have been permanently unlocked.

The switch to this system should mean Apple has no more problems meeting demand for either AT&T or unlocked handsets. All it has to do is order both kinds and switch when necessary. The one remaining question is what happens if they run out of AT&T handsets, can they swicth an unlocked one over in the same way?

Existing iPhone 5 handsets cannot have AWS HSPA+ support enabled, but Apple is shipping the new A1428 carrier
Oh, and yes, we confirmed with Apple that the new A1428 will indeed support AT&T’s LTE network. In other words, your T-Mobile iPhone 5 will run uninhibited on AT&T’s LTE network if it’s unlocked. To boot, Apple is quickly phasing out the existing A1428 hardware, and will soon replace all of them with the new, AWS-enabled model. In theory, that would mean that iPhones purchased through AT&T (after April 12th) would also ship with the appropriate firmware to let AWS support run free, but of course, then you’re up against AT&T’s far less friendly unlocking policy. For US users anxious to snag a truly unlocked iPhone 5 that’ll hum along on pretty much every LTE band in the developed world, Apple informed us that its 24-hour locations will begin selling these promptly at 12:01AM on 4/12. For those who order from Apple’s online site, you’ll need to phone up T-Mobile to have the unlock applied.
Sprint Community: Sprint declined to unlock iPhone 4S for international use
Just got the refusal to unlock my phone because of spending limit. When I bought the phone I have been told that Sprint will unlock the phone for international GSM provider after 90 days of use. It is done twice. There is no debt with my account. However, they refused to unlock the phone. The possibility to use it in Europe was my primary requirement, so I had asked for details at least three times. I need my phone works with GSM card in less than 48 hours. I am completely frustrated with the customer service of the company I choose because of I hoped to get that service on a high level.
Will Gevey Ultra SIM work for iPhone in India
I carried an AT&T locked iPhone to India. I bought a locked phone hoping I can save some money. But considering the amount I spent for initial purchase, monthly data plans which I never took advantage and then the early termination fee for the contract termination etc, I ended up paying almost same as the cost for an unlocked iPhone. I was hoping when I pay the contract termination fee, AT&T will unlock the iPhone, but I learnt it the hard way that AT&T will never unlock the phone even after paying the early termination fees.
